Created by British filmmaker Cecile Emeke, the show is a hyper-narrow look at the everyday lives of two black best friends in England. In it, the director takes a stroll with people around their neighborhood, talking about everything from gentrification to pop culture. I think comparisons are flattering, but calling someone’s original work a “version” is quite trivializing. It’s been important to me to have a space to be sdries free, and the online space has definitely allowed that. If so, what were you doing before your work took off? What does a day on set look like?

What in particular bothers you about comparisons? Crowdfunding and social media have been huge in getting your work out there. In terms of the diversity of [the] TV landscape in England, I very rarely watch TV because it’s still very much homogenous. Aside from the witty rapport, the show manages to be a unique slice of life because of its fresh look at modern black women.
