A still relevant, easy-to-read novel on immigrants in France that should keep my French going a bit at least. Very humbling to realise where Azouz started his life! It was well worth this interesting read to get a feel for the Algerian influence on France and vice versa. View all 3 comments.

The plotlines vary, and it’s weird jumping around from things that have happened on the screen, and not in the book. As with other films in the genre, cinematographic choices here foster not only the teacher-student dynamics, but also the relative spatial organi- zation of characters in the classroom space. Il y a beaucoup de discours direct. We have no variation in subject matter in my French class. This autobiographical book, although not what I would consider great, was very interesting.

I really enjoyed this story. This is probably a personal critique; a book approaching this topic in a more detailed and historical manner would probably have received a higher review from me.
